National Parks
Moab, Utah is located within a day trip's drive of a whooping total of five iconic national parks! Hence, its reputation among outdoorsy travellers. Although all these parks are within a five-to-six hour drive, Moab is most strategically located near two iconic national parks: Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Both of these parks are possible to visit while staying within the town of Moab.
Arches National Park
Arches National Park, is the closest national park and is just a ten-minute drive north, and boasts over 2,000 natural stone arches, including the famous Delicate Arch and Landscape Arch. The park's fiery red-orange sandstone formations, contrasting against the piercing blue skies, create a surreal landscape that has captivated visitors for generations.
Canyonlands National Park
Canyonlands National Park, which is located just a 30-minute drive away to the southwest, offers a strikingly different experience. The park is characterized by its vast canyons, towering mesas, and the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers. Visitors can explore the park's three distinct districts: Island in the Sky, the Needles, and the Maze. Each area presents unique vistas and opportunities for hiking, off-roading, and even white-water rafting.
Dead Horse Point State Park
In addition to the many national parks in the area, Moab is also the base for some incredible state parks. Perched on a high plateau overlooking the Colorado River, Dead Horse Point State Park offers stunning panoramic views of the rugged and desertous landscape made up of awe-inspiring canyons. You can take a hike along the rim, go mountain biking, or simply soak in the breathtaking vistas.
