Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park is one of the most impressive places in the United States. Imagine magical glaciers, imposing waterfalls and redwood trees that reach up to 90 metres high. It is situated in California, in the heart of the Sierra Nevada, just a five-hour drive north of Los Angeles. Probably the most famous part of the park is the 11-kilometre-long Yosemite Valley, which is surrounded by gigantic granite walls. Among the world's largest granite monoliths is the towering El Capitan, which is a challenge even for experienced climbers.

Head to Tunnel View for the best vantage point.

You'll have great views of the biggest attractions including Bridalveil Falls, Halfdome, and El Capitan. The light in Yosemite National Park is another unique element. While the valley is normally shrouded in a mysterious fog in the morning, a warm light illuminates it in the early evening.

Tip: If you enjoy taking photographs, take advantage of the golden hour before sunset to capture your memories.

Places of interest

Waterfalls

Yosemite National Park is home to many waterfalls. The ideal time to see waterfalls is in the spring when most of the snow melts. Peak times are in May or June. By August, certain waterfalls (including Yosemite Falls) are often dry or a trickle. Yosemite Falls can be seen from a variety of locations across Yosemite Valley, particularly at Yosemite Village and Yosemite Valley Lodge. Bridalveil Fall and Ribbon Fall are often the first waterfalls you see when you enter Yosemite Valley.

El Capitan Meadow and Sentinel Meadow

The best time to stop here is when you are exiting Yosemite Valley. See magnificent views of El Capitan and Cathedral Rocks. When you are in the area of Sentinel Meadow, stop at Yosemite Chapel, Yosemite Valley, and Yosemite Valley Lodge for views of Yosemite Falls.

Valley View

From Valley View, you can see Yosemite Valley rising over the Merced River. It is advisable to stop here on your way out of Yosemite Valley, as it is located along one-way Northside Drive. This popular panorama is located shortly after a view of Bridalveil Fall but before Pohono Bridge.
